[I recently bought a 120g Oceanic tank (4x2x2) and I wanted to DIY a light weight steel stand. What size and guage steel do you guys recommend? I found 1"x1" at HD but I think that might not be enough. Would 2"x2" work? 12-14 guage?
After taking w/ some folks at RC, I came up with this:
1.5x1.5x1/8 = $29 a stick (24')
2x2x1/8 = $41 a stick (24')
Now what I need are some good plans. I was hoping to use only 2 sticks, and since I don't have anything to transport the large sticks of steal, the place would have to cut it for me.
I was thinking of building 2 rectangles, (48.5x24) with 3 24" supports (cross beams) on each rectangle. I would connect these with 40" vertical supports. Do I need any more bracing on this or will this be strong enough for a 120 (4x2x2).
Here is the thread over at RC:

Anyone have any issues with this?
Thanks,
