is a 4 - 5 inch starfish like

http://www.ultimatefrags.com/coralinfo.php?ID=49#coral

too big for a 36G tank? Will there be too much bioload from them or are they gonna just be an forager? I looked at a 4 - 5 inch piece of paper next to the tank and it looked pretty large.

Thanks!

Im thinking he might be a little big for it . But more importantly can you meet his needs? Im thinking that the size of the tank is not whats impotant as much as his needs.

Do your self some homework on it first, see if you can meet his needs. Allso how old is you setup? If its a new setup, then start slow. Tell us what you got, that will get you more help.

Without knowing what species it is, I wouldn't risk it. Even with knowing the species, we don't always know what a lot of starfish eat (here at the hobby level- might be more information in scientific literature, but it's hard for us to get our hands on sometimes.)

Well its a brand new
36 Gal Bowfront with a 10 G sump/refugium/skimmer
T5 HO lights

I am just making a list of things that I want and was not sure about starfish since I have done pretty much no research on them. I tried to do a GIS on "Clown Starfish" and got nothing hehe just a link to the ultimatefrags site lol.

Thanks for the reply folks! :)

I would sugest no starfish for now, wait and let your tank get some age to it first. Do you have any live stock yet? and has your tank cycled yet?

Well I have 3 YO live sand and will have my Tank full of LR this weekend with about 40 pounds in it. I know that it needs to mature a bit but was hoping that since the sand was 3 Years old and came from a VERY trusted tank that I may have been able to get a few things faster. I think I may be getting a bit too impatient hehe. I know that is the LAST thing you want to do in this hobby :)

Oh and I just want to clarify that I was looking at getting this guy in a month or so after my tank cycled not right away :) I forgot to add that in my first post

Do you have a good test kit? After you put the lr in the tank, wait about a week and start testing you water. With good rock you should cycle fairly quickly. then after the cycle, slowly add fish (one at a time) or corals(one at a time. After each item has been added wait a couple of weeks to add more(let your tank rest) As you do that, in no time youll have a nice tank, with out stressing everyone out.

I'm afraid that is a predatory star - either Oreaster or Protoreaster (similar to a chocolate chip) and quite possibly not full grown. So corals, anemones, clams, scallops, snails etc would all be fair food for it.

There are really no reef safe stars that I would recommend for that size tank, except for brittlestars. And all require a relatively mature tank with excellent water parameters.

I agree too,but dont everyone remember when they first got to the hobby, you wanted everything now. I know I did.

ya I do want everything ... lol I know I am going to need a FOWLR tank prolly in 2 years.. Purely for the Clown Trigger :p

Tell me about that.

I have been busted twice this month. Every week when I go get water, she is always saying as I leave... "DONT BUY ANYTHING ELSE"

the whole im such a good customer they GAVE me this doesnt work anymore
