Squamosa Clam lighting

Just picked up one of these thanks to Mary.... would stock BioCube PC lights be enough for this guy...I've heard this type doesnt need as much as the others.

I get about 3.5 watts per gallon in there or should I move him to my main tank with the metal halide lights?

I kept one for almost a year in my first tank (55g) under a combo of T5 & PC. It did very well. It continued to do well when I moved it to my 75 under 250w XM 15k MH.
My current Squammy (lost the first one to stupid pyramid snails) is in the 75g under 250w DE Pheonix 14K MH.

Thanks for the reply!

Yea I've had it in my biocube for almost two weeks and its doing great, fully open! How did the snails kill the one you had? I have no snails in there....should I not add any in there with the clam?

Also a slight high jacking of your thread. What is the amount of light that is require watt wise via t5's? Also can you do a iodine dip on these before placing in display? Also I have a cananary wrasse will it be able to to eat the snails before they become a problem?

Hard to say on the wattage required as that would depend on how tall your tank is. For average hieght tanks (18" to 21" range) my recommendation would be for 6 T5 bulbs the appropriate length for your tank.
I would not dip a clam.
There are several wrasses that will eat the pyramid snails. The canary is one I believe. For clams that sit on the sand (squamosa, deresa) you can simply lift the clam out of the tank and brush the snails off with a soft bristled brush.
