SPS with softies?

I don't think SPS have a polluting effect, I just think that they thrive under very clean, low nutrient conditions, whereas you LSP are filter feeders and prefer a bit more "dirtier" water. I find it difficult to keep LSP now that my tank is mostly SPS, they tend to shrivel up and expose their skeletons quickly. You can probably find a midpoint to where they're both happy, but I haven't been so lucky. Rics, shrooms, and zoas really look ugly in my tank, my acans, toadstool, and chalices are unaffected so far.

leathers can really polute a tank so the one you say is the hardest to get rid of would probably be the best one to give up. :( if you run carbon religiously and skim well with plenty of flow though you can make it work. look at marcs tank for example, he has a huge leather and some nice SPS going too

yeah I got a few leathers in my tank, I think is retarding the growth of my SPS. I have a few of the hardy SPS (digi, milli, monticaps) and they seem to do fine. But I got a Stag and after about a year, it has finally started to grow. Tips are showing growth. Believe it or not, I can not grow zoas out like I would like to. (Doesn't help that I got I foxface that eats zoas, too.) I an=m looking at either isolating my softies to one tank and have SPS and LPS in my display. The stag started to grow when I started to run carbon 24/7 and change it every 3 weeks. I just hope is helps my other SPS colonies to grow a little more. I have 4 birdsnests colonies and they are growing at a snails pace. So we will see.

I have been running a mixture of all, though mostly SPS now.

I have leathers, Zoas, LPS(frogspawn,brain,bubble coral,trumpet coral)Shrooms(hairy and smooth), rics, RBTA, Acros(smooth-deepwater,milli's,formosa,sarmentosa,etc), Monti's, GSP,paly's, Gorgonian, etc.
A real smorgasbord.

Of course I did have a finger leather that has been banned from the DT and is in my fug. It almost killed one of my bubble coral heads. My fault, of course. I put it too close. Got rid of xenia for same reason... Chemical attacks on LPS & SPS. It can be done, but selective placement and good water movement is a must.
