SPS nose dive

My SPS looked really good last month before I left for 2 weeks. I returned and they are almost dead. So far I have lost an ORA green birdsnest.
I did a 15% water change. I then found out that one of my Koralia's stopped working from those worms that make the hard tubes. Those animals took over the aquarium and severely reduced the flow in my skimmer also.

I went ahead and actually moved the corals to another tank. I have not had a chance to check the water parameters to see why it happened, I am just bummed out.

sorry to hear, always sucks to lose something...good luck getting it back to normal

Let us know what you find out. Check salinity for sure.

I am glad that I have more than one tank running and could house what was left of my SPS collection. I have done another water change and changed out 2 of the 4 lamps. I think the others had started to decrease but without a PAR meter I don't know for sure. I am replacing some of the scraggly remains back in the 20g and hope for the best.

What I thought were alive are actually dead, the skeletons are just colored so it threw me off.

The only thing I can figure out is that the heater quit. My house is set to 74. The tanks were all running at about 78-80. I don't often stick my hand in the tank so I would not have known when it happened.

I have ordered new heaters for all my tanks. Getting the Stealth heaters with the light.

So now I have had two tanks within one month decline so much as to depress me into not having them, both the 20g long and the planted 15g.

I still have the 75g with micro-bubbles galore, but that is another thread.

Sorry to hear this. [smilie=sadsmile.gif] Have you given thought to concentrating your money, time and efforts......on just one tank??

Cheers,

There is always the question of number of tanks. Currently I am thinking of taking down the 15g and the 20g long. I did cut down my freshwater tanks to one.

I do have fish that are not compatible and need to be housed separately so I may do a regular 20g build.

Oh, and it wasn't temperature and wasn't salinity on the SPS decline.

As the last of my SPS, blue Oregon Tort, died I noticed that the skeleton was indeed white. That probably means the others I pulled out that still had some color on them were probably still alive, and I killed them.
