Sponges ???????

I have these yellowish looking sponges ( pointy dome shaped with a small tube at top) popping up all over my Reef and was wondering what everyone thought. Sorry no pics as of yet. Hope they're not a bad thing !!

+1 good guys.

My tank has tons of these and they are non-stinging so you don't have anything to worry about. These only seem to grow in ideal/health water conditions. I placed some palys right on one of the large sponges and they both opened and didn't bother one another. If they are aesthetically painful on the eyes just pull the rock out and expose them to air or poke them with a stick.

They're called Scypha sponges.

These little fellas is what i'm assuming you have.

i've got 2 pure white sponges.. luckily they are on the bottom of my rock.. what excactly do they filter? they just take away contaminates?

Mine look like the ones kron posted and I've no idea what they are called or what the filter !! If they continue popping up I'm going to have to get rid of some.

"Sponges are filter feeders. Most sponges eat tiny, floating organic particles and plankton that they filter from the water the flows through their body.
Sponge feeds on bacteria and detritus that it filters from the moving water"
