Spock is worrying me today

Every day for the past three years, my Blonde Naso has always swam (swum?) out to me and taken food from my hand. Today I noticed her belly wasn't thick like I like it, so I got some nori that she loves. Usually I can't even get it in the tank without her pouncing on it and ripping it away quickly. Often I have to reconnect the feeding clip back to the suction cup.

However, today she swam over and swam away. Spock rejecting food? What?! So I rubbed the nori inbetween my fingers in the tank to break it up so the flow would blow it around. All the fish raced around eating, but she did not.

I got some Formula Two pellet food as I know she likes that, and she did chase some of it down. I saw her eat some, but she's a big fish and those are tiny pellets.

Normally she swims all around the tank, but today she's parked behind the Devils Hand, under the Toadstool.

I just added more Chromis yesterday. Could it be all that activity (11 total) is making her shy, or do I have a bigger problem on my hands? How long do I wait in case like this? She is completely out of character.

Temp 79.6F
pH 8.19
ORP 313
Sg 1.026

Breathing seems normal, eyes not cloudy.

Well I certainly hope she is just feeling funky or anti-social today... I would give it a day or two of this type of behavior before I started to worry but given her eating habits, that would concern me too.

I think fish, like people just have mood swings. It's just been one day, right? I wouldn't sweat it too much unless the pattern continues.

Do keep us posted, though.

She didn't seem interested this evening in the normal food, which had Garlic Extreme added (normally I don't do that). :?

bummer, i got a fish, 2 actually, that are not eatin...good luck...im keepin my fingers crossed, i love my new guys, and yours is too cool, big ones are always nice

You happened to sqeak out your post one minute prior to mine.

Se may feel awkward about the new arrivals so just give her a few days to get adjusted. She'll get hungry eventually.

I fed again tonight and she swam back and forth but she sure isn't interested in actually eating like she normally does. *sigh*

Sorry to hear that Marc... hopefully she will turn it around soon.

Today she was out a little more, and did eat from the Nori clip. Yay. While I watched her swim away, she peed (I assume) some whitish smokey stuff for a second or so. I may be reading too much into this situation and being overly cautious, but I also don't want to be blase about when all the clues are there. So if this is something I need to be concerned about, let me know.

Just an FYI fish expel excess water via the skin anf gills not a bladder so I am not sure what you saw but it was not pee. That if of course what I read I am no expert.

I really have no idea what I saw, but it was from the bottom of the belly. For some reason I've always figured fish pee as well as poo.

They do pee. No doubt about that.

Let us know how it goes. Hopefully it was just a simply bad mood or something. Every once i a while I've had fish do that for no apparent reason and then be fine.

She was eating yesterday and now seems to be swimming out in the open again. I believe this situation is resolved.

I have read this in more then one place.....

Ocean fish have the opposite problem. Surrounded by salt water, their bodies contain a relatively lower concentration of salt than the ocean water. In this case osmosis causes the fish to constantly lose water in order to equalize salt concentration inside and outside the fish. to partially compensate for the water loss, ocean fish actually drink water through their mouths. And to get rid of the excess salt they take in by drinking seawater, they excrete some salt through cells in their gills

So are we talking pee like people pee or just pee as in excrete ammonia and waste through their gills and skin. Pee is a broad word here. :D Before long this thread is going to need the title "Did Spock pee?"

Well I haven't read up lately but I know for a fact freshwater fish pee. you can catch them and squeeze a certain place and make them (don't ask me how I know this)

Saltwater fish from what I remember also pee but in much smaller amounts and it's extremely concentrated because if they peed a lot keeping the osmotic balance would be that much tougher. they mainly get rid of waste through their gills and of course pooing.
