I think i asked this once before. But just trying to make sure before i do this! You should cut the nem. right down the middle mouth and foot correct??If this is the caser what happens to the nems insides? And will it release any toxins into the water afterward? TIA Jesse

Any anemone that is to be cut should be cut right down the middle. If you are a little off center, no worries. They will heal fine as long as your prop system and methods are adequate.

As far as releasing toxins into the system. Yes, any anemone that has been cut will release some nasty stuff for a while after being cut. It is best to have a completely different system for anemones that will be cut. If you have to return them to a system that contains other livestock, you must put them in a seperate holding container with aged water from the tank it came from for at least 1-2 hours after cutting before returning it to the main display. This will allow the anemone to release it's nastieness outside of your main display.

Thanks for the reply todd. And what about there insides? Do they stay stuck to each half or do they loose them and grow new enerds like a cucumber? TIA Jesse

Ahh that make sense to me thanks scott. I'll probably be doing this next mon. and will take pic. and post the results as i go . oh yea i also have sps in this tank will it be safe to put the nem back in after 4 hours? Thanks again guys.

I've never had the nerve to cut one, but I've had nems split without affecting my sps. I'd think 4 hours would be long enough to let them 'rest' as long as you don't dump the water from the temp tank in the main tank. You going to have a powerhead or something agitating the water?

I have a ten gal tank for emergency already set up. When i do water changes out of the big tank i use old water in ten gal tank. You think it would be bad to lay it in the sand in that tank?

You might want to check out Calfo's forum at marine depot. He has a lot of links to propagation articles that he's written.
