Speaking of QT tanks......

[I have a 10 gallon FW thank that only has (1) platy and a plecostamus in it that I plan on keeping. Isn't there a way to convert or acclimate a platy to saltwater? If so, does anyone know how to do this? I would like to convert that fish to saltwater so that I can use my 10 gallon for a QT tank. Anyone have any advice? I have to add salt when I do water changes for my platy anyway. Thanks for any and all help!! ]

Your freshwater fish will die if you covert to saltwater. You may want to transfer your fish into another tank if you plan to covert your 10 gals to a QT saltwater tank.

The pleco definitely wouldn't survive the salt, but the platy very well might survive the transition to salt... Most freshwater livebearers can be acclimated to salt (I've only done this with Mollies myself)... I'm not 100% positive Platys can handle this transition, but they ARE livebearers, so they prolly would...

I'd say if you do this, take the pleto out before even starting, and take the change to converting over the saltwater VERY slowly, giving the fish as much time (Weeks) to acclimate to salt, just adding a little salt a day...

(Disclaimer, Black Mollies are the most notorious freshwater livebearer that can go full salt, I'm not 100% positive Platies can handle it, but if taken slowly they'd have a decent chance at it)

Thanks to both of you. I will find a new home for the fishies in stead of risking their lives or buy another separate tank for QT.
