Spaghetti/Rasta Leather

Does anyone have a Spaghettii/Rasta Leather? I have had one for about 2 months and this thing never opens up. All of my other softies are doing great but I just can't figure out this guy. If anyone has one please tell me the flow and lighting it's under. Thanks.... This one has really got me stumped. :?

I have one, and have had it for 1yr. The only time it closes up completely is when the water temp is around 81-82 it doesn't seem to like that much. My tank stays at around 78-79 normally. My clowns host in it as well.. it doesn't seem to be bothered by them. It remains open all the time.. even at night... I just upgraded from 9600watt pc's to 150 HQI and that doesn't seem to make a difference. It has slow water movement from the swcd on the return nothing special. My water parameters are

salinity 1.025
Nitrates 10 (can't seem to get lower than this)
Nitrites 0
PH 8.4
Phos 0
ammo 0
Cal 480

Interesting that might explain why the coral closes up more as the day goes on.... My tank has 2 250w MH and usually runs about 80 - 81 degrees. :x

Hopefully the heat will fall when I take my other tank down...

When i upgraded to the (1) 150 setup it added about 1-2 degree to the tank. During the day It can get up to 80 degrees. I can always tell when it's 81 just by looking at this coral... no need to look at the temp gauge. The clowns get a little mad too when it kicks them out.. ;o)

Bill,
I have the same issue with my spaghetti leather. I have had it for about 5 months, and it has not opened up once. I have tried high in the tank, low in the tank, high flow, and low flow. Nothing seems to help.

I'd call that downgrading, personally."]

It works well on a little tank like mine.. I'm not stompin with the big boys... Although it's nice to be able to buy from the top shelf now at the fish store...

I think he was highlighting the error, where you said you upgraded from 9600 watts of pc lighting.

I'm going to try and drop the temp of my tank to see what happens. I will try to keep everyone updated. The Rasta I have is huge and I have only see it open once (the day I got it), so hopefully it will open again.

I took a pic today to document my findings. I was able to drop my tank temp by 2 degree over the course of 24hr. The Rasta did seem to respond some and opened up a little more.

dnkygirl - Can you take some pics of your Rasta so I can get an idea of placement in the tank.

Here is some pics:

Sorry... The temp was 80 - 82 and I'm maintaining 78-80 now by putting a fan on my sump and turning off one of my heaters (was running 2 250w heaters and I think one was running a little hotter than the other). :)

I also keep my tank at 80 on a controller. If your leather opens, I will try cooling my tank down a bit too! Keep us updated.

I'm glad to hear that your rasta started to perk up. I have an older photo of my tank with it.. not a great photo. I'm currently shopping around for a new camera. It's huge.. especially when it's fully open.

BTW my heater is off for the summer. I found that it added 2 degrees to the tank when on.... it was counter acting my fan. My temp runs between 78-80 all the time.. even when the lights are off. My tank is open top so that could have something to do with it as well. I keep the room at 75 all the time.

It has a pinkish coloring and looks like the attached photo up close. Sorry i swapped pics on you here..here's a better looking photo of what it looks like. It is still classified as a spagetti/rasta finger leather.

Well no status.. The coral was closed up tight all day today. I decided to move it to the bottom and will try to update the progress if any. :(

Hey, bill
I am not sure but this is what I have
Mine seams too open easy, it has a green tint to it
Maybe I just got lucky with this one
Lights just came on still abet small
I have mine low in the tank, but it gets a lot of flow
