soo ive got red bugs

well i was lookin at my new tri color stag this morning and i noticed that there was red bugs on it. I have never had any on any other of my sps. What is the best solution to get rid of them. should i take it out before it spreads or what? never had to deal with this problem

ya i have lots of acros and millis.. my corals have been perfect for a year now and i just put this one in a couple of weeks ago.. i might as well just get it out and try and give it back to the lfs and tell them what happend. i know ive never had red bugs or anything like that before. that whole process sounds wayyyyyy to complicated.. but i might have too.

thanx for the info matt

If you decide to treat the entire tank, I'll bring a leftover box of 7 sealed tabs from last year to the meeting tonite. You're welcome to whatever you need. Just look for the "ole fart" with a graying short cut beard and glasses about 6'. Was taller, but one shrinks as one gets older. Don't have any idea what I'll be wearing.

Ted

if you take acros out will the red bugs evetually die out as the acros are their only source of food?

I just treated my tank this past weekend with interceptor. I couldn't catch my cleaner so I left him there...he did make it. I think it is a 50/50 chance.

Anyway, its very easy to treat for these red bugs. My corals look a lot better now and I don't see any more red bugs.

well i think its time to do a whole tank treatment.. i dont see a lot but i bet if i do it all now 1-2 treatments should do the job.. ive reed a couple articles that yall ahve given and other marc posted. I pmed the guy above to see if i can pick those up if he still had him if not i know some girl that works at a vet if not that i will ask other vets and if that dosent work go to canadas weebsite.

any one have any other advice before i do it.

In the meantime i need to prob start pickin out snails and crabs. and try and catch my cleaner .. what about starfish?

I run phosban in the phosphate reactor soo where could i run carb just put it in a bag and put in in the sump where the drain comes?

tthanx for the advice

Um...

Have they actually killed any SPS?

Ive seen them in tanks for a long time and the tanks are healthy as can be. I think they have been around for a while and people dont notice them till stuff dies, aka bristleworms.

In any case good luck with them.

P.S. my sps tank has them but has them for over 2 years now and everything grows fine (they arent rampant). Go figure.

Evan, Don't believe you'll have any problems with snails. They should survive with no problem. Crabs and shrimp are another story.

no all my sps is thriving and everything is ok.. i just noticed when i fed the tank today they were on my favorit pieces that have been with me for 2 years now. soo ive seen them on 4 different sps now and he had me freaked.. i know they multiply soo.. it does seem like a litttle bit of a hassle to do this but ill give it a try.. i guees u do have a point that if nothing is happened at all then it should be ok but knowing my luck they kill my favorite blue tort..lol

thanx yall for the advice

I had some red bugs and I did notice the difference in my sps VERY fast! The polyps on 2 or 3 of my sps would not extend. Other than that I didn't notice anything else on my sps. I treated with interceptor and now polyp extention is great! ?? So from what I noticed they affect sps and more than likely killing them?

Its very easy to treat with interceptor. Dose, wait couple of hours and do water changes, and place a phos mat. You're done.

well after getting salt from the group buy, im ready to do the treatment. ive tried catching as many snails and crabs as i could, but i couldnt catch my cleaner. I hope he makes it!!

Its been one hour since the beggining of the treatment. The cleaner seems fine, but i have noticed some crabs getting out of the shell. Also ive noticed that some of my sps's polyps have closed. I thought they get bigger than ever.. or is that after the water change and carbon?

Ill keep an update to wat has happend. I tried to estimate .225 or something that it came out to of the inceptor.

well im on the 5th hour and everything seems right on track. My cleaner shrimp is still alive and doing good. i see bunch of dead crabs. I dont see any redbugs on any corals soo i guees it did the job. ive had one sps that was slowly dieing but now the bugs are gone, i think im gonna frag it up to get all the dead parts out. in an hour im gonna do the 25 percent water change and throw to mesh bags full of carbon on the sump.. where is the best part to run carbon. below the drain or between the bubble catcher baffles, or in the return pump area?

thanx all for the help and special thanx to Ted for let me have the pills!! thanx soo much yall

Evan

Below the overflow if its not strong enough to pulverize them in the bag.. otherwise the baffles so all that water has to flow through it.

If you dont have a reactor, the best place is after the baffle. You want it to h it and try to "flow" solidly the best you can thru it. Below the drain would be too hard and splash away, return pump area would not "force it thru...the baffle area will.

well im about to do the second water change before my lights come one. its been like 10 hours since the first.

can i keep the same bags of carbon or should i use a fresh bag a carbon after the water change.?
