Something showing up in the tank glass

I was looking at my tank this morning and suddenlly there is something showing up in the left edge of the front glass.

It looks like a break or a chip but the glass is all still there.

I can only feel the lower edge with my fingernail on the outside.

This was not there last night.

How terrified should I be?

A little blurry but a better picture of the size.

It doesn't look like it goes all the way through to the silicon or to the inside edge of the ajoining glass, but it is close.

It's only about two months old. 6 weeks with water in it.

This was a tank I purchased from Aquarium Tradiing just before they shut down and had quite a bit of difficulty getting the tank delivered. I had very little luck getting in touch with the owner then. I doubt I'll have any now.

I do know an ex-employee that I might could find out who is the manufacturer.

Are there any experts close to Carrollton that could take a look at this?

You might want to aquire a large container of some kind and have it cleaned and ready to go in case you spring a leak. Some premixed saltwater would not be a bad idea either.

Good luck.

Ok, so the consensus is to expect disaster.

I've got clean containers since this was a swap from a 75G to this 120G just a few weeks ago.

I'm very close to DNA. Do you think I should contact them for help?

There is no point in spending any money untill/unless you have to, but it would not hurt to call thier service dept and run thru a hypathetical with them to get an idea of time/options/costs.

That looks like a stress fracture about to happen...... I don't want to scare you but I would start planning as others had mentioned and actually order a replacement now. There is no way that can be repaired.... you'll help yourself a lot by getting a replacement ordered now before it breaks.

was the manufacturer's sticker on the tank? What about your invoice?

Possibilities are Oceanic or the guys in Mississippi - Ocean View ( I think ).

Ocean view, but my understand was that drilled tanks are "as is". I'm not sure how I would go about getting anything done anyway with Aquarium Trading out of business. That entire purchase was trouble from the beginning to this end.

I also see some separation up at the top, maybe an inch, where the top of the front glass is attached to the side glass. I've marked the location and I'm watching it to make sure it doesn't increase.

I've ordered a new tank from DNA.

The Universe is antagonistic and this morning it decided that it would reach into my pocket and pull out $600. Let's hope it has no other fun and games in store for me.

You made the right decision. That looked like an impact point at first, but it really sounds like a ticking time bomb now.

Here is the address and phone number of Ocean view:

Ocean View Aquarium Products Inc - Aquariums & Supplies Retail, 2323 Telephone Road, Pascagoula, MS 39567, (228) 762-4010

dont give up so easy. Call them and ask to see their warranty on new tanks. I am sure its in writing and they should provide it to you without much hassle.
