Someone please tell me??

Ok I ant seem to find the answers I'm needing so I thought I would post and hopefully learn what I needy know! Some please tell me everything I should buy from powerheads, lights, pumps (all the specifications on each item) to get my tank going! I have a 55 gal tank with 20 gal sump so tell me what I need to buy lol! I'm not sure about how much I should be pumping and how big of power heads I'm needing, what else am I missing! HELP!!! Thanks
 
the first thing you need to decide is what you will be keeping. what do you want as far as corals or fish or whatever. lights, pumps, everything is dependent on the inhabitants.
 
With a 55 Gallon Tank, you want to go a bit bigger than what you would normally think.
Use a return pump of a mag 9 or larger (no more than a Mag 18), a Skimmer rated at 100 gal or better, and depending on what you plan on keeping, 2 or 3 175W MH's, a decent LED lighting or 6-8 48" T-5's. If you want a very active water flow in the tank, look at at least 4 power heads, maybe K3's or K4's.
Remember, you can alway throttle back on the pumps and cut back on power heads and lights, but it's harder to increase things if you've under-estimated.
A secondary consideration is this.. Once you get the 55 set up and looking good, you will undoubtedly want a bigger tank.
While moving from a 55 to a 75 isn't all than cost effective, if you move into the 100+ gal sized tanks, then having the additional equipment will be a godsend.
