Solar Blast Ultra-A (Apollo Reef LEDs)

Anyone tried these units out? What's your take on them. Same price as AI Sol, but it appears these provide more coverage (may need just 2). Am I wrong?

Guess no one runs these. I might be the 1st come Christmas time. [smilie=rofl.gif] [smilie=rofl.gif]Need to do more research before I shell out $800-1200 for leds. I like ai sol but would need 5 according to them.

What are the dimensions of your tank? You might get away running the ai length.

My tank is 60l x 18w x 24h . I would prefer not to run lights over acrylic as it tends to get some salt and water marks on it and light penetration would be lessened. It only has 2 openings at top. Lights would be hung about 7" off the water.

You would need 4 ai sols if you ran them parallel with the tank.

You really won't get light coverage with two premade fixtures unless you do a diy fixture

Thanks for the info Pampee. Can I expect good coverage running leds over acrylic ? What a pain in the butt deciding. I don't even know if its worth the huge expense. Anyone run their leds over acrylic ?? Right now I run 2 175w Iwasaki bulbs 10k (per your suggestion). Thank you. They're great !! Two 60" t5s at back (penetration questionable) and one Reefbrite 60" led at front (penetration questionable) [smilie=worried.gif] ,this sounds dirty [smilie=lol.gif] . Anyway, quite the mix, but was looking to cut costs. Especially in summer with the chiller, plus I like all that pop that's had with leds.

I don't think you will have trouble over acrylic. Question I have is the height of 7" if you can raise it to 10" even 12" that will stop shadowing. I can run 2 ai and it covers 48" when I run it length wise parallel to the tank. Now is a great time to buy them if you look on rc or r2r you can find some great deals

Guess I can run 4 AI sols parrallel or possibly 3 Solar Blast units, but these don't run Crees (seen some 180g tanks with 3 units and they have good coverage). They use 3w Bridgelux leds. Good but not as good !! Are you happy with yours? Keep us posted. Some folks report loss of growth and color. Thanks !

you are free to come by and look at the tank. i am getting same amount as growth as my ati power module colors i believe are better in 80% of the corals compared to the t5 fixture. 20% is chalices i think are getting to much light so i have to hide them in the shadows

I am running Crees (DIY) over acrylic and have had no problems. They are approximately 12" above the water. I have 96 over an 8' tank. They work well. The only issue I had with startup was in the drivers. Got it resolved. Good luck with your system.

I've looked at some Cree modules made in China by a company named eshinesystems. Each modules has 48 3w crees, but don't know if the rest of the components are good. Unit price is decent at $385 plus shipping. That would be just like yours 96 , but my tank is only 5 foot long. We'll see. I'm researching for now. If I take the plunge, it'll be in Dec-Jan.
