What is the smallest, schooling, other fish/coral/snail/etc friendly fish that I could put in my tank? Something that I could have 10+ of and don't get over 2" adult, preferably even smaller. Yet still colorful?

Was thinking Chrom's, but can't they get almost to 4"+?

I know of nothing that small that schools! Have you looked into freshwater (j/k  ) said:
Been there, done that :)

What about all the shooling fish you see in reef videos... I'm not really after something that technically stays glued to eachothers side all day (as in literally schooling), but more of a small fish that I can put a lot of in the tank. I like the uniform look of fish more than tons of different shapes and colors. Want the Coral to be the focus point of the various shades.

Fish usually school as a protection to predators. Once they get in our small reef tanks they generally stop schooling cause after awhile they realize that there aren't any predators to be worried about.

I have 7 firefish gobbies in my 58gal. They do quite well together. They don't swim in school, but they tend to group together. If I had some extra $$, I would add more.

There are people breaking rules all the time in this hobby, but something that may or may not happen to you is that eventually one of those fish will become dominant. Then slowly pick on a fish until it jump or dies down to just the one dominant fish remaining. There have been alot of people that have gotten the suggested three that some lfs suggest and it ends up to where they only have one left. It happened to me and some others I know. But then again at a number of 7 it may not be a problem I don't know but just a suggestion.

All the fish on here get over 3" which was my issue. They are all good choices but won't stay under 2"

This may be your best bet. Funny i was looking for the same thing. Be sure to post if you find something else that works.

It' doesn't look like a lot out there so I'll suggest a few that get to 3-4" inches and you can choose those if you like. Although you'll have to keep in mind that getting 10+ is not an option except in a pretty large tank!

Chromis (green, blue-green, blue)
Anthias (tons to choose from here)
Firefish (again a couple different types but most don't don't like their same kind so be careful)
cardinals (again most will fight if in a group, so choose carefully)

looks like blue-green chrom's are the winner. 3" isn't too big. I have a 180g, so will probably just stick with 6. Upgrade over time if the tank allows.

thanks all.

the only problem i fine with chromis is that they are hard to keep. i have had up to 11 in my 200 gallon, now i only have 2....granted 2 were the result of my wife  ....but the others would get picked on by a more agressive chromis until there is only 2 left.

My fish has much more color then this fish.

Cool goby! Description actually says to put 5+ together. Looks like a good choice. Thanks for the choices!

Hi Spar & Your welcome

I hope you enjoy them as much as i did. I plan on geting a bunch for my 240g. They swim in a jerking movement back & forth & they stop as fast as they take off. I loved mine. I had it in with my Seahorses. It is a very nice fish so if you move them in with others later on they wont bother the other fish.
