Small fish that reproduces in tank and schools?

I would like to find a fish that reproduces in an aquarium and schools. Preferably a small fish. It would not have to be a traditional fish of the trade, or even pretty for that matter.

Any ideas?

The less raising of the fish I would have to do the better. I am more looking for a saltwater equivalent of a guppy that does its own thing.

Small red stripe cardinal or similar species would be the only one I would think resembles what you want, but they don't reproduce.

There are quite a few fish that will reproduce in tank- clowns, chromis, bangaii cardinals, candy cardinals, neon gobies (many gobies, actually) but I can't think of a one that will survive to adulthood without special set-ups and special feeding.

Unlike many freshwater fish, most marine fish aren't born with a yolk sac that sees them through metamorphosis, they require very tiny, very nutritious foods. Baby fish also make tasty treats to other adult fish as well as corals, shrimp, crabs, and other inverts.

Mollies will school and reproduce in saltwater without your intervention. The fry do not survive in my tank long due to predation but I have seen them. My purple tang eats them like popcorn. The tank I am working on now will probably house a school of 10 silver mollies. The silver ones have a nice color under T5's.

Did you purchase the mollies as saltwater fish or did you acclimate them yourself?

I purchased them freshwater and acclimated them. Oh, and they eat green algae off glass. Not enough to have a real impact but they are constantly grazing it.
