Let me tell you from experience...you will want to move your skimmer collection bottle back over your sump. I float mine in the sump and it sinks over time as it fills. If your skimmer ever goes haywire, which they all do from time to time, it will overflow all over your floor until, your pumps run dry. I came home one day after my Octopus XS160 went crazy to find at least 10g of water on my floor. If its in them sump it will at least keep the tank from going low and the pumps from running dry. They have shut off switches, but they are costly.

If you are running an Apex controller you can just wire an apex into the breakout box and put it in the top of the collection bottle. When tripped it will turn off the skimmer pump!

uh ive never thought about doing that before. I might try that because it did actually overflow about 2gal of water about two weeks ago. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't have an apex, so I just cut the skimmer drain tube to be short enough to allow the bottle to float and stand upright in the sump. That way if it overflows it will overflow into the sump. It's not the ideal situation but better than it going all over the floor. The Apex setup is the better option, but in the mean time this will protect your tank.
