Skimmer

[Ok I am looking for a skimmer for a 46 gallon bowfront. However should I run a skimmer during the cycle or not. The first tank that I set up I didn't however that was a FOWLR. This tank will be a reef tank. I will be cycling the tank for 6 weeks before adding anything period. Then I will add a clean up crew. I was thinking of holding off on the skimmer until I build my sump/refugium. But this is where my problem lies. The space I have in the cabinet will only allow a sump/refugium that is only 10" wide. I am still designing and rethinking how I am going to do this part. The original design I had was a 30"LX10"WX20"H with a HOB skimmer. I know that an in sump skimmer is better but not much room to work with here. Any one got any designs handy.]

you can still get a quality hob skimmer - lots of people have success with aqua c remoras ... you could also talk to somebody like david at triggersys.com about building a custom skimmer to fit your space requirements - might be a little more $$, but it is usually worth it -

i would run my skimmer while you cycle the tank - no point in not that i can think of - if equipment allows it - good luck.

[What I was trying to decide was if I should just get a HOB and run while cycling or just wait until I get the sump built about6 weeks to 8 weeks after start of the cycling process and get an in sump model I heard they work better then HOB. I could always do say a 40% water change per week or two weeks to keep every thing in check.]
