Skimmer warming the water

Since I removed my skimmer...my water temp is running much cooler. 3-4 degrees cooler. I've been running a Reef Octopus NW-200...it's a little big for my sump...is it normal for a skimmer to heat that much ?...how much heat do your skimmers add to the tank?

It's the pump that will add heat to your skimmer. I use a mag pump to mix salt and that water feels warmer than the water in my display tank.

You have a skimmer rated for 200g running in a 40g system? Yes, the pump could be adding heat.

The DT is 105 gallons....the sump underneath is a Trigger System Elite....the biggest one they carry at the LFS....so that adds another 25 gallons or so....so total water volume of 120 gallons...probably still to big ??

Well, the volume and that skimmer don't sound that much out of balance. I don't know why your tank runs 4 degrees higher - it may not be the skimmer alone.

Ill bet its cooler weather. The math says a 65 watt pump wont add that much heat. If you add in the surface dispersment its likely a near wash.
