Skimmer question

[i'm thinking of just downgrading to an Aqua C Remora Skimmer and just hanging it on the side of the sump Instead of getting a really nice Trigger Skimmer. I'll save about 50 percent versus the Trigger Skimmer, but i don't know if it will work hanging off the side of a sump since the water level is not all the way to the top. I was wonerdering if i can just add silcon hose so that the pump sits on the bottom of the sump? Anyone done this??? I don't want an urchin because i want to save room for the fuge area.]
 
[Yes it can be done that way, but the output from the skimmer will be LOUD because it has so far to fall before it hits water.]
 
[I'm sure you could do it. You might have to rig something for the output and possible change the pumo to a larger one to go up a certain distance but should be relatively simple. The Remoras are excellent so I would go for it!]
 
[I wonder if it will work. I suggest you contact Jason at AquaC and tell him the water level in your sump and the height of your sump walls so he can let you know if it will work.

Those Trigger Skimmers are sure pretty!]
 
[sure do agree with you marc, thats why i want one and i'm pretty sure they would WAY out preform the aqua C. Should i just us a bigger sump to fit the skimmer into the sump. I really don't want to do this cuz it's just going to make my fuge area small. I was thinking about having the Trigger elevated above the sump, but i don't know how that would work out. Anyone have there skimmer plummed into the side of their sump??? How much room do you need between the two???]
 
[It is all a matter of vertical space. My skimmer is very tall, and I have it outside of my sump, with the drain pouring back into the sump/skimmer area. (When I build my new sump one day, the skimmer will actually fit.)]
 
[You can run the Trigger Sys skimmers outside of the sump. Most of the models are too tall to fit in a sump! However, that fact just means you are getting more water/air mix time for better skimming results...]
 
[I have a Remora on my 29 gal sump, mag 5 pushes water up through tubing i got from lowes into Remora. I would have to measure the the sump to give specifics. But it works great I pull a nice thick black smelly slime cup in about a week to week and half. using mag 5 to help with nasty bend from tubing to Remora.]

I have a Mag drive sitting in the sump, pumps water over the sump to the skimmer which sits on a six inch stand. Then the return goes back through a bulkhead into the sump. I would only do this though using a collection container for the skimmer that when full, shuts off the air to the skimmer so it will not overflow.]

[do you happen to have a picture of this your setup Rick??? Do you have some type of quick release between the bulk head and the gate valve???]
