Skimmer PRoblems

I have a ASM G4+ skimmer with a gate valve modification. Up and running since July. Lately it's been acting weird... all of a sudden it will start overflowing the collection cup.

Now, I notice that it is spitting out fluid from the vent pipe on the gate valve assembly.

Does the skimmer pump require period cleaning? DO I need to take the impeller housing off and clean it? TIA!
 
The skimmer will need to be clean on a regular basis. We usually clean out the skimmer every week. Sucks to do it, but it does get clogged up.
 
The pump, the venturi, the impellar - all of it should be cleaned at least every two months. The cup and riser daily. :)

And I know a lot of you are rolling your eyes at my constant recommendation to clean the cup so often. It really doesn't take long if you do it daily.
