skimmer in refugium or HOB

Hello; where is the best place to put my skimmer? mine can be used as a hang on or in the refugium. i have a 55 gallon tank and the back is painted so other than the pump you really can;t see the skimmer if it were mounted on the back and it would be much easier to get to the cup to clean it. But i want to put it where it would be most beneficial to the tank.

Either placement would work equally the same. If you have it in the actual refugium, you will suck up pods. Put it in the part of your sump before the refugium. You want all the extra pods from the refugium to flow back into your tank for live food.
 
so I have a sponge filter in the slot were the refugium water flows to the pump chamber [to keep cheato from getting into the pump] should i not have that there? if so how to I keep the Cheato out of the pump?
