Skimmer going nuts. - New tank

[Background...this is a new tank. I was getting a live rock/sand shipment in, so I added a bag of Southdown to the tank on Monday. HUGE dust storm. The skimmer was going nuts, but it was just sandy water, so I just turned it off.

Well, the live rock went in yesterday and it managed to clear up the sand storm overnight. The skimmer is still going crazy. I started collecting all the overflow, but it is largely just clear water and I was losing too much of it.

Should I let it keep going and replace all that water, or wait to start collecting all the water until it looks like it's somewhat dirty?]

[Doesn't seem like a bloom...however, I suggest that if skimmer cup is adjustable, raise it a bit further from the surface - this should decrease the quantity of skimmate but increase the quality of the skimmate.]

[Worth a try - seems like your proof should be the quality of the skimmate as to whether it's effective or not

Anyone else have an idea on this?]

[don't know about the ev120, but on my venturi-type skimmer, i can lower the height of the foam peak, by valving down the water through at the skimmer's pump or by opening the gate valve for the skimmer's return to the sump.]
