Simple Sump build. Too simple?

Need advise if my plans to build my replacement sump is to simple. I using a 40gal breeder feed from a single overflow DAS 110. I'm thinking of allowing all the flow one end Skimmer section then fuge section then return section. Too much flow through grape calerpa and a little cheato. What do you think?

thks

What return pump is that?

I would put the bubble trap after the skimmer section and a single baffle with eggcrate along the top before the return section.

OK thxs Marc

The pump is a Ehiem 1262 which I'm not going to use. I plan to use an internal return pump and that pumps body runs externally hotter than the QO4000 that I'm going to use.

The skimmer will be in 15" of water with the update so you might need a stand for it. 5-6" width in the return section, micro bubbles will be more likely in the 2nd design.

you wanted a good reason for a split drain design, there it is. you can make the baffle splitting the skimmer and the return section lower so the skimmer is not in as much water.

see ya this weekend to put it in?

ahhh good catch Charlie I'm not paying enough attention to my baffle height in the drawing it will be lowered to maintain a 12" water height in the first two sections. So baffles around the cheato will be 12" tall.

THANKS

I would recommend a triple baffle before the refugium, rather than a dual baffle.

Version 3
I now have an idea to add a 4" wall after the last baffle in the Fuge section. The two goals are;

1. Cause the cheato to tumble
2. Provide a small area of lower indirect flow with rock rubble for a home for pods and etc.

What do you all think?

The first section will have all kinds of slime accumulate on that baffle since you made it an Under baffle. I'd make it over-under-over, mainly to avoid that.
