I'm not sure what kind it is, its the kind that spirals up like an ice cream cone and grows purple and green algae on it and looks like my live rock. I bought it from my LFS along with the rest of my cleaning crew 9 weeks ago. My tank is only 11 weeks old. . .a 12 gal Aquapod. I have hammers, frogspawn, mushrooms, leathers, zeneas, pollops, gsp, candy canes, brain, cleaner shrimp, starfish, and firefish. I have 3 snails, 2 seem fine but the one is laying on his side in the sand sucked up inside his shell. I do have extra shells for my hermit crabs and they dont seem to be interested in the sick snail. I did put live rock in the back reservoir 2 wks ago after boiling the rocks. I did get an amonia spike and nitreats, but all levels have been back to normal for the last couple days. I do water changes, one gal a wk with instant ocean and ro water . .no di yet. Feed freeze dried prepared food, and frozen plankton cubes, and live micro plankton. Besides having to clean the glass alot, no significant problems with algae growth. I do have a light film of brown algae on the back of tank that the snails seem to like quite well. Ph 8.1 kh 9 phosphates 0 nitrates 0 amonia 0 salinity 25.5 temp 77 . Corals, fish and all else seem to be doing fine. I realize that stuff just dies sometimes, . .old age or whatever. And I'm asking for advice to be sure that this isn't a sign of some underlying problem that I have missed. Thank you in advance.
