Shrimp disappearing

I have a six-line wrasse that keeps the aptasia in check and is a nice addition to my tank, although I think he is the reason I can't keep peppermint shrimp, they disappear.

Is the sixline known for eating shrimp?

Each fish is different but I had a 6-line in with a peppermint shrimp, banded coral shrimp and a cleaner shrimp...no problem. I don't think they are known for killing shrimp

**edit** What other fish do you have? Maybe your salinity level is off.

Cheers!

What else do you have? I had a fairly large pair of bangaii cardinals that enjoyed peps...very expensive fish food!

My flame cardinal loves ANY type of shrimp. As Misty said, very expensive treat/meal!!

I know before I had the flame cardinal, for some reason peppermint shrimp wouldn't last very long in my tank. I had other shrimp like cleaner shrimp and fire shrimp and those lasted years, but the peppermint shrimp would never last for more than 6 months. I never figured out why. The only thing I could think of was maybe I had some sort of evil crab hiding in my tank that I never knew about.

I have a six line in my main with pepermints and other shrimp. The six line has never bothered any of them. Now the pepermints are constantly dropping babies, and I sure the six line gets his fair share of them. Some of the offspring appear to be surviving in my overflows along with other pods. At least some of my overflow inhabitants are taking the form of small shrimp and definitly have a red color to them, so I am leaning toward them being pepermint offspring. It will be interesting to see if any of these offsprings actually make it.

Whenever he sees one of the pepps out in the open, he chases it back under the rocks and he will troll the rocks looking for it. He also use to do the same thing to my little pair of neon gobies and one of them disappeared.

I also have a yellow tang, false percula, and a neon goby.

Do you have a sump? I've had a few new Peppermints go into the sump this week. I have the overflow protected with gutter guard, but I guess it is not enough to stop these guys.

No I don't have a sump for this tank, only a small HOB fuge and HOB CPR bakpak. I have a small crab in the fuge and I don't see any pepps. I have not seen any remnants of pepps either. Maybe I will find them when I move this tank. :?

Ive had peps disappear for days on end only to turn up later... I know when they molt they will hide. The 6-lines are great fish, but tend to harass some others but I have never heard of them eating shrimp. Possibility exists that you have an unknown hitchhiker like a crab or something.....???

Honestly, if you're wanting to get a good pod or mysis population I wouldn't put crabs or shrimp in a fuge because they will eat the pods.
