[Ok guys here is another bothersome question,How can I seed the rock I just made for my 150G build up,? I am a lil nervous cus i have spent some bucks on alol this and i would not want to mess it up.

Thanks for helping guys]

[best way to seed that rock is to put it in a container with other cured rock. make sure you have circulation, or you can just put it in the tank for cycling.]

[I have some sand I just took out of my 3 yr old tank. If you want some, let me know - but do so quick, as it breaks down fairly quick. (I'm keeping the samd wet until I figure out what I want to with all of it.) The bacteria in the sand will certainly help the rock!]

[Did you cure the rock to get the contaminate from concrete leach out yet? That will take 6-8weeks. Once tyour pH is down under 9 then you can worry about seeding it etc!

If you have already done so use about 10-20% real live rock with your DIY rock and a couple scoops of sand. Put it in a big tub or your tank and let it go!]

[how long dose it take for the rock to become live rock ?
ken]

[Well Ken it starts to become live as soon as you put it in a "live" environment like with "wild live rock". It is not equivelent to real live rock for years but does colonize with the bacteria needed for filtration fairly quickly (within a month or so) and that is the main function. Real live rock ha tons and tons of diverse life on it that you do not get with DIY rock until a long time has passed and these animals have colonized in large enough numbers.

There are studies that even in the ocean the aquacultured rock after 2 years was not close in diversity to the wild live rock. By no means does this imply that it won't work for your purposes, it most likely will work great! Only that there is not the diversity of critters!]
