Seahorse stung by rabbitfish

I had a weird experience recently. I thought I would share it with you.

I think one of my seahorses got stung by my rabbitfish. I had to temporarily put my good sized rabbitfish in my seahorse tank until my new tank gets set up. Two days ago I noticed one of my seahorses all of a sudden start thrashing all over the tank in agony. The seahorse was eating fine earlier in the day. This happened at feeding time and the seahorse was located where the rabbitfish likes to hide. I noticed a small puncture wound on the back of the seahorses tail. The area around the wound was swelling. Later that evening the seahorse was lying on its side and appeared to be dying. The next day I was suprised to see the seahorse still alive. She was breathing normal and eating again.

Even temporaily. You should never house any fish with seahorses that aren't seahorse safe. Glad everything turned out alright. I hope you moved your rabbitfish into even a 20g until his/her house is ready.

I am not a newbie with seahorses. I have been keeping them for 8 years. I am aware of the consequences of keeping certain livestock with them.

I had to break down a 215 and scatter the fish into different tanks. I already set up a 90, 29, 25, and two 10 gallons just to hold fish. The 400 gallon is now set up and all fish have been moved into it. Seahorses now live in the refugium of the new tank.
