Sea urchin sighting!

[So, Saturday morning I turned on the ligths in my tank, to discover a little black sea urchin on one of the suction cups to a powerhead. and he scooted behind the powerhead and hid after the light came on.

he was black, about teh size of a quarter. almost had that "cute" aspect to him. anyway. i have a feeling he made it in on a scoop of sand or something.

my question is... do i need to take him out and sell him to the local sushi restaurant?? or is he a good addition for my tank?]

[I think as they get older/larger they can be a pain in a reef. Nothing like coming home and seeing all your frags knocked over or stuck in his spines.]

[I have one a bit larger in my tank. Have no idea how he got there, just appeared one day after a couple of years. He must have been really good at hiding. He's been in there with my knowledge now for a couple of years more, and everytime I see him he's a bit bigger. Unfortunately, he really likes to munch coralline. I keep in there because...well, I don't know why exactly. Guess cuz I don't have anything else to do with him. :)]

[Hmm, I've noticed the amount of corline in the tank dropping slowly. I guess he only comes out at night to do the munching. Because he was sure to hide once the light was on, and I haven't seen him since.

So, basically keep him until he's big enough to eat =)]

[Holy cow, talk about deja vu. I had this happen to me about 2 weeks ago. It was 12 PM and I had to turn on the VHOs to do something. I just about freaked to see a 4 inch Sea Urchin in my tank. No wander my Coralline was disappering. I for sure didnt put him in there. He wasnt the tuxedo type, more the sharp spiny type.

Got to say I was rather impressed he was in there as I know for a fact I never put him in there intentionally. So he must have made it as a little itty bitty bugger on LR or in the sand I got from a few people. Funny I thought these guys were fragile as babies.]

[I have one of the spiny urchins - he only eats the green coralline, and my purple can take over. But I purchased mine :)]
