SEA SPIDER!!! HELP!!!

I believe I may have some in my tank. I actually pulled 3 out of my frag tank but I thought I had gotten them all so i put a frag that did not see to be doing to well into my larger tank and this morning the little polyps were obliterated(those were my fire n ice zoos too ). I would like to have these little critter burned in a month if possible because I had planned to give these frags to my friend for her birthday in November. But I can't give her Sea Spiders and have her tank get infested.

what is even worse is I know exactly where these guys came from and from which frag. I bought a beautiful frag of yellow and green zoos(which also happen to be my favorite) and I SAW the spiders get off. I counted 4 or 5 then and I dumped 1 into the filter right then because spiders gross me out but I did not have the heart to do it to the others and I did not know anything about them at the time. I have regretted it ever since.

And on a far sighted note. I don't want to put my SEA SPIDER CONTAMINATED rocks into the larger tank when we get that in November either. I was also planning on selling off a massive 15 lb coralline encrusted piece of rock(because it is taking up WAY to much room) this month but i can't in good conscience do that either.

does anyone have any ideas. Should I just start all over agin? And just dump my rocks into a bucket with a pump and a heater and let it cure all over again. throw my sand away and get new stuff. I am really at a loss as to how to totally get rid of them. It is a brand new tank and has only been up for a few months so if starting from scratch is my only option and am not TOO broken up about it...

nevermind yes I am
my first salt water tank I have spiders eating all of my coral.(this emoticon does not fully capture my saddness)

By "Sea Spider" are you reffering to the creepy looking lil' Zoanthid eating nudibranches? If so, I'm no expert on them, but I BELIEVE they tend to stey close to their prey.

What I'd do is make some Zoa dip (PH/temperature Adjusted RO/DI FRESH water with Iodine in it (Lugol's solution) and take my Zoa frags out one at a time and dip 'em to get the lil SOB's...

Can't recall the exact amount of Iodine or the length of time to dip, but I'm sure someone else will pipe up (If not I'll look for the details for ya'...)

Good luck!

And don't worry TOO much, there are VERY FEW icky things that require a complete starting over...

if this is a nudibranch then yes it is. but I thought it looked more like a spider. I caught this one and took a pic.

That is most definetly a spider. The dip mentioned above should do wonders, but y9ou have to do them all at the same time to get them, otherwise they just travel to another zoo.

should I dip all of my rocks? I have those larger zoos that begin with a P on the huge ones in my main tank. So does that include them as well? And what will the dip kill? I have brittlestars, featherdusters, pods, and small bristleworks living in the rocks. Will this kill them as well? don't mind the bristle worms so much but I like the disters and stars. And is it possible that the spiders can just hide in the sand?

Sorry about the questions. I am a stickler for specifics.

Ok so I have a large 5 gallon orange bucket that I am going to put ALL of my rocks into with the water. I have the kent iodine stuff; can I use that instead of the lugol's solution? Does anyone know about how much I should put in the water? or how long?

I went to the LFS and their 10 year expert had never seen anything like my spider. However I did learn all there is to know about lighting while I was there. :D

thank

The author later updated the Dip to use about 5 drops of Lugol's solution instead of the amount listed in his later articles. I recently found 2 of the spiders from 2 different LFS and I used a prepared Dip (not the one mentioned) and it did not kill the spiders, but at least it did seem to make them come off easier. I'm not sure whether I got all of them or not either. We put the spiders in 2 jars and kept them closed and at least one of them lasted for about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks and appear to still be alive :x . Good luck in the eradication.
