SCWD: opinions and experiences?

This 90 that i'm building up is 6' long. The SCWD seems to be a prety cost effective way to move water around without adding the heat that more powerheads would. I'm thinking of the return from teh refugium having a Y-split, each leading to a SCWD, for a total of 4 return nozzles being fed by 2 SCWD. I'd need a moinster pump, but that's ok, as long as the SCWD perform.

Does anyone have a criticism, observations, or experiences with SCWD. I do recall reading before that people had problems with leaks and internal breaks, but that ahs apparently been sloved. Or ahs it....?

i use them i have one on my 60 cube....every once in awhile it gets stuck with crud and will not go back and forth so i shut off my pump and let it back wash for acouple seconds then turn it back on....second you lose i think it is 20 or 30 percent flow from your pump.. other than that i like it.

I'd worry that you won't have a strong enough flow for a 6' long tank. My 120 is only 4' long and my modified MJ1200's on a wavemaker kick butt compared the the SCWD I used to have.

What Pampee said! I had one a long time ago. But water does not like to go around corners and then the scqd also creates back pressure on top of that to where it like having a significantly smaller pump on your return. I would find another way, myself.

I had the same set up that you want on a 140 connected to a mag twelve. It worked awesome to me. it created very random flow. I faced them forward against the glass. I recomend a prefilter on the pump. I have had no real problems with a SCWD. I am running one on my 200gallon right now. I was putting too much presure through it at first and it leaked a little then I reenforced it with super glue. now it works fine. Also, I recomend using barbed fitting and rubber hose for easy matainece. Use 1" comming from the return pump then 3/4" for the rest. try not to use any 90 degrees Use 2 45 instead.

have fun

I used a SQWD for several years, no problems, no clogging, no cleaning, worked perfect all the time. Had it on a MAG12. One of the best inventions for the reef!

Thanks for the info guys! I guess it'll take some tiral and error to get it going right. Might even have to get 2 pumps in order to run 2 SCWD for 4 return heads. I will be sure to put a slotted intake on teh pump so as not to bring up anything lumpy from the sump.
