Sand Question

I bought 4 bags of the Argonite sand group buy back in December in anticiaption of a tank build. I am now setting up a 110 gallon tank. Is that too much sand in the tank? It was suppose to be 40 pound bags, so thats aproximately 160 pounds of sand in the tank. The tank has the same footprint as a 75/90... (48" by 18"... It is 28 inches tall I think.) I put all the sand in the tank and it looks like the sand is about 5" deep.

Will the sand pact down a little and settle in less than the depth now?
When I set up my 30 gallon 3 years ago, I did 1 pound per gallon and always regreted it because it was on the shallow side... but I also don't want it to be as high as it is now...

Its good that you invested in aragonite sand. I think its so worth the little extra money for good sand that actually will help with de-nitrification.

Sounds like a good start to me! Now all you need to do is seed it with a little sand from an existing tank and perhaps a seeding kit from Inland Aquatics or Indo Pacific and get the DSB humming in a few months or so.

Your sand will pack down a bit but not noticeably. You'll want to make sure to get some good DSB critters.. Nassarius, a Conch or two and anything you can find that will turn those particles over for you.
