Saltwater mixing question....

Im new to the SW scene and have been buying SW from my LFS here in Longview. At 89 cents a gallon, I dont consider it a bad deal, but I think I would rather make my own as it would save me money in the long run.

But mostly, I want to make my own water just because I want to! :p

I will be making 4-5 gallons at a time for my 37g.
I have Reef Crystals salt and a RO/DI maker.

So my question(s) is this....
What size circulation pump would be adequate for mixing up my SW in a 5g bucket? :?

Also, I understand that like fine wine (AND whiskey  ), SW needs to 'age". What would be an adequate aging time? 2 days? 5 days?

Thanks
dd

Any pump will work you just want it to be strong enough to move the water and salt around so the salt will dissolve.

The ageing is probably up to personal preference, mot people let it aerate overnight to get the ph up and make sure all the salt is dissolved. Others will just mix and use it immediately.

For the amount that you need to make, I'd say use a maxijet for circulation. As far as aging the sw, I go with 48 hrs. Although if it were an emergency, 24 would work too.
You are going to like making your own. At least, you'll know when filters were changed last and what the TDS is :D

EDIT: Steve beat me to it.

Eric,

thanks for the reminder. I do have that one at the top of the "how to" list.
I will also bring the water temp to the same temp as the water in my tank prior to adding the salt. Thats the right thing to do isnt it?

The reminder is much appreciated.

thanks
