Salt Test

There was a post on this forum a few years ago tested some popular salt mixes for macro and micro nutrients. I was wondering if anyone knows where i can find the link?

What is the best salt out there these days?

Aquarium Water Testing did a big test on the salts available. That was 2-3 years ago. Check their web site. I have a copy somewhere that I printed out at the time. I will look for it later today.

Thanks Dennis. I would bet most of those formulations have changed by now... guess I will just pick one that sounds good and go with it! LOL

I have been using coralife salt for almost 6 months now with great results plus it is inexpensive

Most of the salt studies are out of date as most of the manufactures have changed their salt mixes. It takes a lot of time and you must have production samples of all the salts in order to do a study which is why you may not see a new one anytime soon.

Just the salt you like and perform your own test and if your livestock is happy, go with it.

1) I just got reef crystals and man that stuff dissolves so quickly. Pretty good i must say.
2) we should do a GB on one of those places where they test the water for you and get it all tested! That would be awesome...

The problem with testing the salt is that the test will be out of date in a couple years. I think the good companies will always produce a good salt, and as long as we buy it, they will keep selling it. When that test came out I changed from the salt I was using to Oceanic salt, but I really cant remember the parameter that made up my mind. I believe that I based it on ppm calcium, as i never dosed my tank, just did water changes.
