salifert users

I know this may be dumb but I gotta ask. First time I've used a Salifert nitrate test. The instructions say to fill vial w/ 1 ml of water. This amounts to hardly any water. The vial has a 10 ml mark on it so this would seem to be the logical amount of water to test with. So is it really 1 ml or 10ml?
Thanks

you can double up water and use 2x as much of the powder if you want it to be more water. that is what I ended up doing. same results just easier to see when using the low-res view from the side.

Be careful as some of the Salifert test kits utilize a small amount and give you the option of looking at the color density from top or from the side. From the side you multiple or divide the results by ten or some number per the instructions. They do this knowing that the longer the distance throught the tested media changes the color or saturation. Twice as much would double the distance from the top, thus saturating it, but would not affect the color form the side.

Along this same thought you can not just change the vial as the distance from front to back is a known (not a variable) and is used as part of the color or density comparison to their chart.

After checking the Nitrate does provide for two ways to sample - looking from the top as normal or the side, if you use the side then you divide teh result by 10.
