Rusty dust, I must bust

Hey all,

I can't seem to keep my diy phosban reactor from spreading red dust all over the place. I have low flow through it (I regulate the flow w/ a ball valve). The surface of the media is very lightly agitated and never send large granules of gfo more than one fourth the way up the chamber.

I rinse it thoroughly w/ ro/di and have a fine floss filter before the output, but I can't seem to keep the dust from making it's way into the tank.

I should be getting new gfo from bulk reef supply today, but i've tried 2 different gfo's with the same result.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!

I understand that the flow in the chamber should barely be making the top granules move, any more and it's to much.

Hi,
Adjust the flow as low as possible to achieve zero phosphates in the effluent output of the reactor. The problem sounds like the filter floss is not doing it's job for what ever reason, and allowing some water to bypass it. I would suggest adding a sponge that is cut to fit your reactor. I use the gfo from bulk reef supply and have only had a problem when the sponges were old in my reactor and allowed dust to pass.

Cheers,
