[I ran two 4' actinic VHOs with my dual 175w MH over the 55g for over a year. Earlier this year, PetOrama sold T5 actinics so I bought two to replace the VHOs. There is a link on my Hidden Treasure page with all the details.

Bottom line: I didn't feel it was enough light to make my tank look good. However, running MH, VHO and T5s looked amazing.

My fear is that the lower wattage T5 output will affect our corals adversely. If your tank gets 220w of VHO lighting, and you switch to 108w of T5, are the corals still getting the same PAR or intensity? I don't know, but I think not. It would be great to save money in the electric bill, but not at the expense of health of my corals.

PetOrama just installed T5s over a tank in the corner of the store. They had the new endcaps, and used an IceCap 660 to run four 4' bulbs. I know this because I helped get them working that day. ;) They should be able to get you the parts you need.

The wiring diagram was the same as what is labeled on the ballast, so they weren't overdriven as far as I know.]

[Maybe you can put some computer fans in the end of the canopy, to blow room air into the canopy and force the heat out the back.

Or you can mount them in the lid, blowing down. That worked on my 55g and I didnt' need a cooler. The cooler air hit the water and the flow forced the heat out the back.]

[Hi George
If you want t-5s there is really only one place to go lighting. they have everything you need. But you need to use the "SLS" reflectors trust me they aren't the same with out them. The blue plus's are the best bet for actinic supplementation.
Just my opinion
Joe]

[George, you could cut a hole in your reflectors to allow the air to pass right down through them, if you like. That is what I did on the 55g.]

[I've got a 36" PFO reflector with a single 250w 10K and two 39w Blue+ bulbs. I didn't use the SLS style reflectors and I think it gives plenty of supplimentation. I'm sure the reflectors would make even more difference, but my tank looks a crisp white now.]
