Run RO/DI unit outside??

Is there any problem with running a RO/DI unit outside? I couldn't find a logical place to setup my new unit so I hooked it up to the garden hose temporarily.

Then I got to wondering does this have to be temporary? Right now my garden is getting watered with the waste water and I have RO/DI delivered to my doorstep.

Would outside temperatures be harmful to the membrane? I'll bring the unit insdie between uses.

I think the only problem you will see will be in the winter. Many people on here have had their units break from freezing. But, for the summer, I don't see a problem with it. Plus, you get to use the waste water to water your garden.

Please make a cover for it (even a modified styrofoam icechest will work) to avoid nuisance algae growing in it, as that may clog things up badly.

Don't leave it out in the winter. One freeze is all it takes to cause all kinds of damage. Housings crack, fittings crack, seals rupture.... So for the winter, you'll need to figure out a good location, but for now, your outdoors plan should be just fine.

I hooked mine up in my garage to my water heater (the in-line to it).

Nice and out-of-the-way.

Mines in the garage...never had a problem, except one time when I forgot to bring it in on a very, very cold night. Cracked a housing.
