Ronco temp controller settings

Trying to set this thing to work with my chiller and heater but I dont get it. I set the first setting to 77 with a 2 degree variable and the second setting at 76 with a 1 degree variable. Chiller comes on at 79 and runs till tank is 77. Then at that point the heater comes on. I set the heater to 76.5 so it does not actually heat the water but the digital display comes on. The heater is a Fluval E series and honestly it does not tell you if its currently heating. Plus it has a cover on it so I can't touch it to seeif its "on" on not. Just can tell its getting power because the LCD readout is on. My biggest concern is that the chiller is going off and the heater is coming on and they are battling it out with my electric bill being the loser. [smilie=shake.gif]

So if you have a Ronco controller what settings are you running? Thanks!

You have the heater coming on at 77* and the chiler cooling back down to 77* so they will both be on. You may want to try something similar to below or just do a 1 degree diff with what you have.[smilie=smile.gif] Make sure you are putting in the diff for correct one(H1/C2) (H2/C1), you can have two chillers or two heaters or one of each, when I had one of these I put screwed this up initially.

(heater) 77 degrees, 1 degree variance, H2
(chiller) 79 degrees, 1 degree variance, C1

Ill give it a try. I read the manual and thought it made since but then implementation was a failure. I sat with a cup of ice water and a cup of hot water and could not get it right. Either it would work like I have it currently or not turn either on.
Thanks

Grr [smilie=angry.gif]

This thing runs either one or the other. Something is always on. First I hit set, then choose F then set temp at 79 and differerence at 1 selcect C1. Then I push set again, choose F set at 76 choose difference 1 then select H1.
Tank is at 78 heater is on. Grab the probe with my hand and and heater turns off and chiller on.. Is this thing broken or am I missing something.

FYIi did this in reverser and set H1 first then c1. Same result [smilie=angry.gif]

Ok the s2 mode never pops up. That the problem. After looking at the manual I decided to see if it was locked. Took it apart and the wiring does not look right. I'm clueless about electric wiring. Help please?

Does that white wire supposed to link both stages? The blue wire looks like it links two other wires[attachment=0]ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341539074.011616.jpg[/attachment]

Think I figured it out. This is a one stage controller that someone has wired to turn on the heater when the chiller is off. So I guess the way I had it was right. I'll set it at 77 with a 1 degree variance and set the heater at 76.5 So chiller will come on at 78 and chill to 77. At night when the temp drops to 76 the heater will run. No chance of heater sticking on because it it gets too warm the chiller will come on and disconnect power from heater. This is not ideal but should work for now.

Glad you figured it out. The dual stage would have 2 relay's in there and also have settings for both stage 1(C1 or H1) and stage 2 (C2 or H2) so for example your chiller would be C1 (stage 1)and heater would be set using H2(stage 2).

Cheers,

Never even thought it could be a single stage since it had two plugs, one labeled heat and other labeled cool. Plus the only directions I found was the same as you linked. Kinda ingenious the way someone wired this single stage to work both ways, even though not a true dual stage.

Thanks again for the help
