RODI Question...

My inline TDS meter was reading 6ppm and my filters/DI were only 3 months old, so I thought it was probably time to change out the 2.5 yr old membrane. I changed out the membrane and the TDS meter read 4ppm, so I thought it was a filter issue so I ordered new ones and changed them out and my TDS is still reading 4ppm. Sigh... Should I change out the DI now?

The unit is one of the Ebay RD-106 units and it has worked fine for the last 3yrs and now I've spent $110 in the last 3 months on this thing.

first and foremost i would take ur tds meter to a lfs and test it against theirs to see if its working correctly if they will let you

For What It's Worth-
I have Marc's (Melevsreef.com) 100gpd RODI unit. When I installed it my TDS measurements were-

incoming water - 300+
RO output - 16
DI output - 3 or 4

I asked Marc if this was ok, he told me with 16 going into the DI he'd normally expect 0 coming out, but that 4 was fine. I also learned elsewhere that anything less than 10 was acceptable, maybe that's debatable.

Correct, the DI polishes off the last of it Bill.

Great thanks for the input... I was thinking that was the case, but wasn't for sure. I'm going to get an upgrade on my DI since it's the ebay style that doesn't work as well.

I recommend Marc's unit. It has clear canisters so you can visually check the media and replacement cartridges and parts are really easy to get. His website has lotso info regarding installation options and he's right here to answer any questions, he's helped me a few times. It don't get no better.

Honest commentary, I'm not on the payroll! [smilie=lol.gif]

Jason, thanks for the offer! I agree it would be good to compare my meter to another one, Allen is halfway around the planet from me haha. I used to use Walmart Culligan dispenser RO water, it consistently measured 3 on my meter. The Dejablue drinking water my wife was buying measured 15-16. Other than just a good feeling the advantage of now having the RODI is to not be lugging 5g jugs anymore, assuming TDS is the only important thing.

I went ahead and upgraded to the new DI canister and the meter is now reading 0 TDS. I guess the DI that came with the filter I got a couple of months ago was just sub par.

Thanks for the input everyone. [smilie=clapping.gif]

And I guess I need to soon realize it's time for me to get a new DI resin cartridge although it's only 50% used (by color indication). I'm glad you now have a perfect setup.
