RODI newbie question.

Hi everyone,
The used tank we bought came with a RODI unit the guy said was real good, but we can't find the brand or model on it. We can't remember which line he said was waste and which was good. It is a 4 stage ,3 canisters under a metal bracket with the membrane canister laying across the top of the bracket . Just like the majority of ro unit pics I have seen. Lines are not colored, the 2 output lines have valves on them 1 is a dark blue the other is light blue . Dark blue line flow is just a trickle , the light blue has a much higher flow .
Please help

Are you coming to the meeting tomorrow? If so, bring a couple water samples and I can bring my TDS meter to test it.

PM me your email address and we'll send you a set of instructions. I assume your system is configured like this:

Hi,
Try Marc's site, it has hot's of pic';s to help you figure this out. http://www.melevsreef.com/rodi_help.html The light blue line that has lower flow sounds like the good water line. You usually have a 3:1 ratio so 3 gallon's of waste water to one gallon of good water.

Cheers,

I'm going to post a pic of it, but the 3 to 1 looks right because the line that comes out of the membrane on top is the low flow. Got confused from a video on that BRS unit above it looked like its black connected to the membrane and thats the one they said was waste water.

Ok, wife just corrected me. The higher flow line is the one out of the membrane canister, That was what led to my looking for info , I thought the water that had the most filtration should be the lowest flow.

The line out of the membrane usually goes int the di resin canister for final polishing of the water. Unless a used unit comes with all new filters, is usually cheaper and less of a headache to just buy a new unit. Check out the pic's and you will probably figure it out but sounds like lines were maybe swapped at the auto shut off valve.

Cheers,

There are TWO tubes that exit the RO membrane housing - on is the water purified by the RO membrane (a.k.a. "permeate"), and one is the waste water (a.k.a. "concentrate").
