RODI Maintenance Question

The RODI unit I bought did not include a flush valve, but does have a restrictor valve on it. The valve is operated by a thumbscrew to restrict the amount of waste water exiting the system. I looked at RO system flush valve kits and wonder if I need one. When looking at a flush valve, it appears that all they do is completely open up the waste line.

If I open up the restrictor valve all the way, would it essentially be doing the same thing as a flush valve?

Here is the flush valve I was looking at: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~action~view~idProduct~RO1313~idCategory~FIRORAFL~category~Flush_Valves-Accessories-Reverse_Osmosis-Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies~vendor~~tab~1.html

IMO, I wouldn't worry about it. The membranes last for 2 or 3 years and I don't know that this would significantly extend the life of the membrane. Plus membranes are rather cheap now. I think I paid around $30 for my last membrane. When I first got my RO unit back in the mid 90's I think I paid over $100 for a 30gal per day membrane.

Also, I thought a flush kit actually reversed the flow of water thru the membrane. At least that was how it was explained to me many years ago.
