rock covered with aiptasia....

i have a rock that is covered with aiptasia and it has a colony of valida tri-color and a ora red planet mini colony on it.. we have a matted file fish or aiptasia eating file and it does absolutely nothing but take up space and look like a leaf floating in our tank we purchased peppermint shrimp and nothing.... how effective are to copperbanded and does anyone have a baby one or something for sale maybe.

My CCB loves aiptasia and he eats frozen so I get the best of both worlds. I got mine from DNA. I bought a small one and he didn't do so well with the flow and all, I'd suggest at least a 2 - 3 inch one, as to me it shows that they "probably" eat stuff besides aiptasia

Get the right kind of CB and its almost 100%. I've got mine from Frank and the one in my main wipes them out. I had a breakout in my frag tank and got one during his sale and it wiped those out. until then i would take frags and place them in the main and wait a few hours while the CB cleaned em up, in some cases just hold it in the water while it went after them.

I keep a Copperband to keep aptasia at bay as well. The Copperband won't actually eat the aptasia he will just keep it closed and starve it. Chances are when/if the copperband dies some of the aptasias will re open. Only thing I've ever seen actually devour the entire thing is peppermint shrimp. Beware... Occasionally once the aptasias are all closed the Copperband will develop a taste for your brains. said:
That's strange, the CBB's I've had have all eaten aiptasia as in nothing left in that spot, actually seen them attacking them. I have also had rock's in the garage with no light or food for months and the aiptasia was still alive, white but still very much alive. I have heard of then eating acan's etc., but I have not had that issue....yet and they alway's had plenty of choices in each tank that I have had. [smilie=smile.gif]

HA!!

Berghia Nudibrachs are also good for aptasia. I haven't seen any locally in a while in the Dallas area but you can find them online. You can drop them in on the left side and you can watch the aptasia get mowed down right across the tank over several days.
