RO/DI?

I have a ro/di unit from Marc. It was time to change the filters. The prefliter and the first of the carbon was dirty . The last carbon filter looks brand new still. Is this nornal or is something up? I only get about a gal per hour and can not seem to find out why I can not get more. The unit has never really work up to par since I got it.

Mark,

You should first make sure all of the fiters are seated correctly. A TDS meter is invaluable as far as troubleshooting, one of the dual tds units are great as you can figure out which filter is possibly at it:s end of life. Good luck bro

Cheers,

Most systems come with a prefilter, carbon filter and a DI filter which is the last in the group of filters, along with the membrane filter which sets the GPD volume.
I have seen it when the last filter does not look as dirty as the 1st 2 because most of the sediment has been caught by the 1st 2 filters.
I recommend always changing all 3 at the same time to keep your water TDS at -0-.
It depends on what membrane you have in it that sets the GPD amount.
It also depends on the pressure of your incoming water and when the incoming water is very cold it will slow down the output as well.

Hope this helps...
Dale

I am only getting 1 gallon of good water for every 16 gallons of waste water. Filters are setting good.

All of the above is true but a 1:16 ratio is not possible with a correctly functioning unit. Coulds be bypass valve or membrane issue, I would contact Marc. :)

Cheers,

He did and we are trying to resolve the problem now. It appears to be a water pressure issue based on our latest PMs.

Marc, I swap out saddle fittings. It seem that the saddle fitting was no good. The unit is working up to par now. Thanks for getting back with me so quick.

No problem; I'm glad we got that resolved.

I do hope the other hole you created is well sealed.

I had to go out and buy a new water valve for the hot side. I just shorting the cooper line past the hole, And put the new valve in.

Thanks for selling such a great unit Marc, even a plumbing ID10T like me could get it up and running quickly. It is currently running underneath my laundry room sink.

My only problem at this point is deciding whether not to tap the drain for the waste water line. I'm thinking of using some of the waste water to clean the filth off of my car and van. I can't justify that much waste without putting at least some of it to use.

I think my flow is in line with what it should be. I was able to get between 3 and 4 gallons in about an hour. Mathematically that's in line with the 100GPD figure, it might have done better if I wasn't tinkering with it while it was making water.

I've never used the waste water either. I really should, but have never worked out any working logistics. What I should do is fill up a barrel with water outside, and run soaker hose to the foundation from the barrel. I just don't know how I would install the bulkheads, how to keep the mosquitos out of the barrel of water (even a puddle can be an issue here) and how to keep insects (ants, for example) from plugging up the drain line by trying to set up home in the outlet.

Also, I don't know if water would exit the soaker hose if the barrel didn't have a significant volume of water to create pressure. Once it gets down to a couple of inches, it might sit there and stagnate. :?:
