RO/DI water

Which LFS in the plano/addison/richardson are sell RO/Di water and what do they charge? Do any grocery stores sell ro/di water?

Dallas North aquarium in addison has it for a bout $1 a gallon. Any grocery store should have it also for about the same price. Just read the label, i use to buy ozark. Not the spring but there is one if you read the small print that says ro/di.

in the long run it would be much cheaper to buy a unit. Marc sells RO/DI units not sure of the brand or cost (see Melvs reef under sponsors). I got a new 5 stage RO/Di on ebay for just under $100. So you figure about 100 gallons and it is paid for. Minus the filter changes, but it is much cheaper in the long run. can't remember the filter life but it's a while.

Really I think the cheapest way to buy it, is to take your own 5 gallon containers into the supermarkets that sell it that way. I have bought it from Kroger in the past, 30 gallons at a time. I loaded a shopping cart with my containers, filled them up, and rolled to the checkout. Told them it was 30 gallons and they rang me up. I thought it was about .30 a gallon that way. It was not ro/di, but it is ro water and they use UV on it. The tds is about 5-10, but that beats tap water hands down, if you can not afford or do not want to buy a ro/di unit.

As one of my professors use to always say, “we can agree to disagree”. Well I guess it up to you on which is cheaper. I think we can all agree it is nice to have the unit at home and make water any time you need it with out going to the store.

The most cost effective way if you are going to use alot of water, is hands down to have your own ro/di unit. I have two, one that refills my reeftank automatically when water evaporates. And one I use to make water for water changes. I am talking about buying it at a grocery store for those that can not justify buying one at the moment.

DNA has it for 99. Cents and offers I think a 10 or 15 percent discount to dfwmas members on all their products. ro/di is 50cents I bought a 6 stage ro/di off of ebay for 72.00 and it works great. I bought 2 55 gallon trash cans from home depot and drilled them out and put bulk heads and key valves in them I also added Kent float valves and solenoid that shut the system down when not producing water for me. I use a power head in the 2nd to make my salt water to pour straight into my 5 gallon jugs. I went in with a buddy and split the cost. We know make are own salt water and ro/di. WAY CHEEPER and more convenient!

After my custom sump comes in from Melev I will be installing auto top offs to the system. This will make it even more convenient!

One thing I found out quick is watch your PH when producing your own ro/di water you will need a PH buffer additive

i buy water at Water Provisions To Go in Garland. The owner has a best filtration system. You are welcome to check out his stuffs there too! As for the cost, 100 gallons for 35 bucks. If you buy more often, he can give u a discount. I pay 33 bucks for 100 gallons. TDS is 0.009. I have a TDS meter and i tested the water. I am still buying the water over there. Last week, he told me that he just got it upgrade and the water is even better according to him. So check this place out.

thank you so much for supplying me with all the prices and places...i think im going to hold off on the ro/di and just go with the stores water

Marc, I spoke to Lawrence at this location today and advised him about the DFWMAS board and sponsorships. No reason for a non fish establishment to be excluded from sponsorship? I really think he is going to give serious consideration to becoming a sponsor and a follow-up call in a day or two would be well worth your time.

David, we tend to keep it aquarium-related, and this one is barely on the fringe. I'll let the BOD know and see what they think.

Aquariums definitely require water. In all probability, the majority of members do not own RO/DI units and it is simply another option.

Doesn't matter to me, just trying to help out.

Marc, i also talked to Lawrence, an owner of Provision water to go, about our club.He might want to advertise his business here on our website too!!!! Also, he wants to know how to set up a Nemo cube for his 5 yo daughter. I buy his water every week. Great guy to deal with.

Not that my opinion matters a whole heck of a lot, but in my ever so humble opinion a store that sells RO/DI water should be allowed to be a sponsor here if they wish to be. They might not be directly aquarium related, but their services are heavily used by aquarists...

Just my $.02 worth...

DAvid and Serk, you guys are right!!! fish and corals need good water to live in and i do need good water to drink too!!! It's my 3 cents.

I have to agree with you guys totally. We have a provision that we only want to have local businesses sponsor the board, I think that idea is fine. But any local business that has a good reputation with the community and sells a product that people on this board might tend to buy, should be very welcome to sponsor the board. It would cost them very little a year and club members would receive a discount for purchases from them, everyone wins.
Where is the downside?
