RO DI Water question

When I make water I always let the RO run through and watch the meter until the TDS is low, then start to fill up the container. But the water that comes out of there in the beginning smells like rotten eggs, it's horrid. What causes that horrible smell?

How often do you turn the RO system on? Sulfur smell isn't all that unusual - I've noticed a bad smell from my bathroom faucet lately when brushing my teeth. I'm not sure if it is the water or perhaps the drain. With the weather, my home shifting, the older pipes... sometimes it is hard to tell.

Burning off the first minute of RO water is usually the best way to make your DI resin last longer.

How often depends... we make drinking water, too. But at least a 3-6 times a week. It rarely goes more than 3 days not running. It's connected to the laundry room faucet. The smell isn't coming from the pipe because I've never smelled it running the laundry water or from any other part of the house, just the RO water. I let it run before using it and have the inline TDS meter on. It usually starts off at like 96-100 and drops to like 3 or 4. Then we start to use it for drinking water or I'll start the DI filter part... which I still let run about a cup of water before I use it to fill. But the DI never smells.

How old would you say the filters are?

Running it a minimum of once a week is best. I run mine about 3x per week for tank and drinking water needs.

The filters are about a month old. But I've not done anything with the membrane since purchased.

I can't rule out the membrane, but the only way to know is to pull it out and smell it.
