RO/DI unit waste water

I know this has come up before, but I have never seen or remember seeing a specific answer for this...

If you decide to drain your waste water into your washing machine for laundry, how do you know when to stop?

I know the washing machine will not add more water for the first cycle if there is enough, but I wanted to make sure I didn't add too much water, or "overfill" the water in the machine.

Thank you.

Ours goes down the sink. We have enough problems with Tippie remembering to shut off the water when our 32 gal trash can if filling and overflows onto the floor. If we ran the drain water into the washing machine it would just run onto the floor sooner.

I just fill it almost to the top and then move the hose back to the drain. The machine is set for a full load. But I also have to use a timer or I would totally forget and flood the room. Then just add soap, clothes and start it.

Set your machine for the largest load and when it has finished filling make a mark on the tub with a Sharpie. Now you know how full to let it fill. I have filled mine past the line a couple of time and it doesn't seem to hurt anything.
Thanks,
Mary

Thanks you for all the replies...

So I see that remembering to switch the hose back to the drain is the most difficult part... lol  .

Great idea with the sharpie Mary, thanks.
