RO/DI problems

I bought a ro/di unit and I'm trying to connect it to my washer valve. The current setup is setup exactly like the first picture. The female hose compression is plastic. The problem is that when I open the valve it won't hold. Once the ro/di unit starts to fill and the water pressure goes up the female hose compression won't hold and it flies off spewing water everywhere. Would a brass female hose compression make the difference or is there just too much water pressure from the pipes from the washer/dryer pipes?

The black plastic one probably cracked and thus can't hold on. Or it isn't threading on enough. Or the fitting doesn't have enough threads. Regardless, the brass one will most certainly work.

Be sure to slide the nut and the ferrule over the 1/4" tubing first. Screw the brass fitting onto the hose bib's threads. Now insert the plastic tubing until it stops, slide the ferrule down until it touches the brass section, and the tighten down the nut with a small wrench until it is firmly in place. The nut compresses the ferrule, which bites into the tubing. That is why this is called a compression fitting. Ferrules can only be used once, and if you ever have to replace it, you simply buy more ferrules at your local hardware store. The other part and the nut will last for years and years.
