Revisted - I no longer need wrasse help :(

OK, I usually do not get fish that I haven't fully researched. Until last night when Bekah won the 4 lined wrasse in the raffle! I have been researching on the net but really haven't found anything out about their behavior over than they can be aggessive, like to dig in the sand to sleep in & also like copepods (among other types of food).

The question I have pertains to his behavior in the QT tank right now. He is lying on his (or her. Take your pick) side in a 90 degree PVC coupler with his body curved. Is this normal? He really hasn't eaten yet that I have seen. All the QT parameters are normal.

Any ideals?

does he eat? Do you have pods in your qt(I doubt it). If he is not taking food, you prolly have to put somthing natural to him in their i.e. pods....maybe buy some oceanpods or seapods and release them in the tank.

Note i am not a wrasse expert...I know six lines like to eat pods...I assume 4line is similiar diet......if you decide you don't want him for some odd reason I have a trillion pods and have been looking for a four line...hint...Muhahahahahaha!

I KNEW there was an ulterior motive!!!!

We were hoping to get a manderin and place them in the main display without having to QT (since they usually do not carry ich) or QT them because of their specialized diet. I wonder if I may have to do that with the 4 line if he doesn't eat any other food :(

I have a 4 line wrasse and love it. It is way more prettier than a 6 line in my opinion. After seeing PeterLin's I just had to have one. Mine eats frozen and they also eat pods. As far as going down for the night, mine find a hole in my rock and sleeps there. They make a mucous that surrounds their body while they sleep which makes me think that 4 lines aren't sand dwellers. They are a rare fish and if yours makes it you will be so happy. Mine stays very active swimming all over the tank so yours may just be nervous or something. They may eat some cyclopeze if you have no pods. There is a group buy kind of thing going on with seapods. Check it out in the forums. I am not sure if I can post who it is for since it is not this forum.

Sure you can. Exotic Aquatics is hosting that particular buy.

It's breathing seems to be normal & I have noticed the mucus mentioned earlier. I was just watching him for a while and he seemed to perc up and take an interest at some tiny bits of nori that were dislodged and floating after cleaning the instake screen of the power head. I will be doing the night feeding in a few & let's see what happens. Aclimation was bag in QT tank with QT tank water added over the course of a few hours (he was also trying to jump out of the bag during this time), a fresh water dip (to temp & pH) for 1 minute and then into the QT. Hopefully he is nervouse and will get over it soon.

737mech,
I guess I am overly cautious :? .

Anyway I have just fed him. It was kinda funny. He would lay still and wouldn't really do anything unless a piece would fall into his mouth! Then maybe then he would close his mouth on it. At a risk of stressing him further I decide to see what was up. I picked up the elbow to get him out of it. He swam to stay inside the elbow as I lifted it. He finally exited the elbow when I removed it from the water. He then swam around a bit and I saw him actually EAT a couple of pieces of food. He has since taken up residence behind the ebo heater on top of a suction cup holder.

I am going to conclude that he is just nervous and let him be. My main concern was him eating and now that I have seen him do so I am happy. Thanks!

Wrasse (yes a very original name) seems to be doing fine. He is swimming around the QT and in & out of the pipes (where he spends most of his time). I purchased some cyclop-eeze to help in the feeding dept. He seems to eat it. Definately Scooter (the red scooter dragonet) loves the cyclop-eeze. Hopefully they will continue to stay healthy and continue eating.

BTW Thanks DFWMAS. The four lined wrasse & the scotter drgonet are not fish Bekah & I would have picked to purchase for our tank. Now that we have them, we love them & are excited to get them in the display!

:D :D

I am glad he is doing good. I have always thought these were cool fish. I had two that would clean my other fish.

Well just when you think you are doing right by a fish; you do something that just screws it all up.

Last night I was cleaing out the filter assembly and pump in the QT tank. Well apparently I forgot to insert the screen on the intake.

You can probably figure the rest. Just a few minutes ago the lights came on & I couldn't find him. The female false perc was in his normal pipe. I looked all around the tank & didn't find anything. Then I noticed the open intake. He was caught in the intake pipe. Unfortunately he was gone by the time I found him.
