Return pump not touching sump floor. This ok?

Hello all. well after putting my pvc in for the return pump. it was a hair too short and the pump does not go all the way to the glass.

Is this ok? Should is be sitting on the glass? Or is it ok to be a little suspended?

how is it not touching the glass? Is your return line hanging on the tank so that it suspends the pump? Sorry if this is a dumb question just trying to understand exactly what the situation is.

If that is what is happening I would not feel completely good about it. You could probably build a platform out of a couple pieces of acrylic or spare glass, which you could silicon in, so that it is actually sitting on something, or eggcrate even. I would think about doing that.

I actually have my pump "hanging" so that it does not touch the sump. It reduces the noise quite a bit. It's only about 1/2 inch or so from the glass. I have my plumbing "strapped" to the top of my stand which suspends the pump by just a little bit.

The pvc goes straight up to the bulkhead. When I glued the pvc together, I did it a little too short. (Lots of unions and T's and stuff) Hard to get just right.

So the pump is hanging off the bulkhead with PVC.

I would support it with something. You could use a sponge or something just to get the weight of the pipe and the sponge will adsorb the vibration and take out any noise.

If you need to change the pump out, can you do it with out draining the water out? Is there a ball valve or a union on the pvc that you could turn off easily to get the pump off? If not you might think about adding one and in the process it would lengthen the lines to get the pump sitting on the bottom. If that is not an option add something under it like a piece of rubber mat. Sitting on the mat would also keep noise vibration down.

I would be worried that the pump hanging would put undo force on the pvc joints eventually causing a leak of some sort. I have no experience to back it up, just thinking.
